Loose Leaf Yerba Mate. For use in Gourds, Guampas, French Presses, or any other Loose Leaf application. Steeps in either hot or cold water. Guayaki practices a whole plant, whole health philosophy incorporating a generous portion of stem in loose leaf blends as the stem contains beneficial compounds and balances the flavour of the leaf. Loose Leaf blends incorporate traditional curing and processing techniques and genuinely express the regional character of their origin.

How to Prepare your Loose Mate
 
French Press
Place 3-4 tablespoons of loose yerba mate or Java Mate in the French press (use more or less depending on desired strength). Add enough cool water to moisten the mate. Then add hot water. Steep for 3-10 minutes. The longer, the stronger.

Coffee Maker
YERBA MATE: Place loose yerba mate in filter basket. Add enough cool water to moisten the mate. Then run the machine as usual.
JAVA MATE: Place loose Java Mate in filter basket. Use 2 tablespoons of Java Mate per cup of water. Prevent overflow: Brew 1/2 a pot at a time. For example, in a 8-cup coffee maker brew 3-4 cups at a time. Run machine as usual.
 
Espresso Maker
Yerba mate brews well in most espresso makers. Place yerba mate in a double espresso portafilter.  Pull a long shot for a total of 4 oz.   Great for making mate lattés.  Some baristas choose to grind the mate before using in portafilter.

Tea Pot or Tea Ball
 Add loose mate or Java Mate to tea pot and moisten with cool water before adding hot water. The mate will sink to the bottom in a few minutes. Pour through a fine metal mesh strainer if one is not built into the tea pot. (When using a tea ball, a fine-mesh filter is most effective.) This method also works great with a reusable tea sack.
 
Traditional Mate Gourd and Bombilla
Yerba mate is shared traditionally in a mate gourd to inspire community. A mate gourd is a dried, hollowed-out vegetable gourd (Lageenaria vulgaris) that has been hand-carved by an artist with great care. Learn how to cure and pack your gourd to begin your own daily ritual. Add a tablespoon of Java Mate to your yerba mate in the gourd for a decadent treat.



 How to prepare a gourd:
